Hi Bloggers,
Well, I created my first book, and an e-book at that. I am so very excited about introducing this application to my students that I am anxious for school to reopen (and this is the first time in many, many years). As I am writing this blog, I think that I cannot wait for school to reopen so I will go to school next week and work with the lab technician and inform him about the various applications I learnt about in this course. I will also schedule some lab time for the new term.
Angela, Darrell, Shasta, Renuka and Terence all shared their experiences with e-books and from their various testimonies it can be seen that e-books have great potential for enhancing learning. I agree with Shasta that e-books have the potential to be extremely motivational to students; and I would like to add to Renuka’s comment – in that, it can not only be used as a “shared experience” between child and parents but it can also be a ‘truly’ shared experience between students and teachers. This is so because the teacher can use his/her voice over text for the child to learn.
This is yet another example of how the teacher can extend the boundaries of the classroom, into the virtual classroom.
I can also say that I too am looking forward to the reopening of school to try out some of these technologies especially the ebook. I have always dreaded the opening of the new school year because I would have to teach my form ones the alphabet in Spanish which I think was burdensome for both of us. Now I can see how ebooks can and will transform this task for both my students and I. I have already started compiling data for this project and I know my form ones are going to love it. It is not only a motivational tool for the students but for the teachers as well.

ReplyDeleteClara,
ReplyDeleteI love your enthusiasm and I am confident that you would do wonders with the eBook. Recently, I created one to teach fluency and what a ball I had!
In the same way that we enjoy the technology so too will our children. Clara, we are all in this course for a purpose and I want the excitement we feel now to remain with us for a long time. We have so much knowledge to impart to our children and our colleagues as well. This is just the beginning of our learning so therefore we must continue reading, sharing and finding innovative ways to motivate our struggling readers. With your excitement, there is no doubt that you will keep your torch burning!
Clara,
ReplyDeleteYou probably have the same excitment I had when one of my students blogged on her own at home I sent her the link and she was able to access the class blog that I set up based on a book we are reading at present in class, holiday lessons. The comment was only a sentence but I felt so accomplished, excited at that moment, it was a bit nostalgic.
I encourage anyone to try using the technology, the respobnse you get from your students if everything is set up to their convenience will be astounding. On the other hand, I have observed that the students usually lose their excitement when the inaccessibility of the technology is an issue, the children do lose their initial drive.
But I do wish you luck.
